Sculptra®
(noninvasive rejuvenation, collagen-stimulating filler, bio-stimulatory)

Beginning in our early 20s, our body’s collagen production declines by 1% each year, eventually leading to thinning skin, volume loss, hollowing, and wrinkles. To help combat this aging process and stimulate natural collagen growth, Been Facial Plastics is pleased to offer Sculptra®.  This non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment works gradually over time to restore lost volume, increase skin thickness, and add support to the skin while avoiding that “over-filled” look.

How Does Sculptra® work?

Unlike fillers formulated with hyaluronic acid which work by attracting and binding water molecules to create a plumping effect, Sculptra® is a bio-stimulatory agent comprised of a strong polymer called poly-L-lactic acid. When it is injected into the deep layers of the skin, poly-L-lactic acid (often seen in dissolvable sutures) triggers the body’s natural collagen production. Collagen stimulation can continue for up to 24 months as the poly-L-lactic acid in Sculptra® slowly breaks down into water and carbon dioxide. After a series of Sculptra® injections, the skin radiates with long-lasting volume and an increase in structural skin support.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?

Sculptra® gradually renews your natural collagen and can subtly volumize and lift areas of the face. To achieve your desired results, we may recommend combining the treatment with other services offered at Been Facial Plastics. The best candidates for Sculptra ® are those with:

  • Mild to moderate laxity or drooping of your cheeks or jawline
  • Hollowness in the cheeks or temples
  • Deepening nasolabial folds

What Sets Dr. Mark Been Apart?

Patients frequently desire natural results with minimal downtime that will leave them looking ageless and not overdone; they want to look like themselves but better. Sculptra® provides Drs. Mark and Geeta Been an effective, non-surgical option for our patients looking for gradual, long-lasting results. Both physicians have undergone specialized training for injecting Sculptra® and lend their artistic eyes and attention to detail to achieving optimal results. At the time of your consultation, they will perform a complete facial analysis to decide if you are an appropriate candidate.

What to Expect after your Sculptra® treatment.

To minimize any discomfort during treatment, Sculptra® is mixed with a numbing agent before injecting. After the injections are complete, we will massage the area for you to help properly distribute the material. We will show you how to massage the area at home by following the rule of 5s: five times a day for five days, massage the area for five minutes to help prevent nodules from forming. Minor tenderness, swelling, and bruising may be present for 7-10 days after the treatment. We advise patients to avoid working out and to avoid using makeup for 24 hours. Optimal results will be seen approximately 4-6 months after completing two to three Sculptra® treatment sessions as new collagen lifts and smooths your skin.

Your results will continue to evolve over time with the aging process. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 2-3 years for continued results. During your initial consultation, our experts can recommend a treatment plan for you for continued skin health and improvement.
