Chemical Peels

(exfoliation, rejuvenation, melasma)

We realize there is not a one size fits all solution for great skin. At Been Facial Plastics, we provide several superficial to medium-depth chemical peels to address your specific concerns and improve skin quality. These include the SkinMedica Vitalize Peel® and SkinMedica Rejuvenize Peel® which are great options for those looking to diminish mild to moderate skin imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles and to help even skin tone. For those desiring more correction or suffering from melasma, the ZO 3-Step Peel® is an innovative treatment regimen that attacks anti-aging concerns, as well as pigment, with a combination of at-home preparation and in-office treatment.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

After the skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared with a degreasing liquid, solutions containing optimized combinations of exfoliating acids plus retinol are then applied in layers to the skin and carefully monitored. These acids lower the pH of the skin, loosening the “glue” that holds the skin cells together and dissolving the proteins within the skin. The skin will then slough off over the next week (this may occur with almost indiscernible flakes or with visibly shedding larger pieces of skin depending on the peel) leaving behind softer, smoother, more even skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for Chemical Peels?

Depending on the type of chemical peel and the skin concerns being addressed, chemical peels may be performed in a series or as a single treatment (great when done two weeks before a big event!). They may also be recommended in conjunction with other procedures we offer at Been Facial Plastics to enhance your overall anti-aging results. Candidates with the following skin characteristics typically benefit the most from chemical peels:

  • Acne
  • Acne scars
  • Melasma
  • Fine facial lines and wrinkles
  • Enlarges pores
  • Rough skin texture
  • Pre-operative skin therapy
  • Post-operative skin recovery

What Sets Dr. Geeta & Mark Been Apart?

Practiced in the treatment room for decades to improve the signs of aging, Drs. Geeta and Mark Been appreciate the dramatic results that can be achieved with chemical peels. Treatments are designed for optimal, safe results and can be performed as a stand-alone solution or as a tool to further enhance the outcomes of other procedures performed in-office. Pre-treatment and post-treatment skin care protocols are also incorporated to enhance results and expedite the healing process.

What to Expect After Your Chemical Peel

For our superficial and medium-depth peels, no anesthetic is required. Skin is pink afterward and may feel like a mild sunburn. Skin will begin to peel approximately 48 hours after treatment and may peel for several days or more. When the skin peels, it may be almost imperceptible or could be noticeable—this will depend on the peel used and treatment goals. We will also provide you with soothing aftercare to aid the recovery process and always recommend you wear sunscreen to protect your new skin.

Our expert staff can recommend which peel options would be the most beneficial for you during your initial consultation.
