Compared to fully ablative lasers, the Smartskin+™ fractional CO2 laser uses technology that selectively spares small amounts of the skin within the treated area to minimize the amount of tissue damage that occurs during treatments. By limiting the overall skin damage, the subsequent inflammatory response is less severe so a patient’s recovery is shorter and less uncomfortable. This laser can help tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation and improve skin quality with just one treatment.
The Smartskin+™ fractional CO2 laser by Cynosure sets the bar as an industry-standard in the area of skin resurfacing. Treatment settings can be customized based on the area(s) of the face being treated and the individual needs of the patient.
The laser resurfacing is performed in the comfort of our private practice facility. Laser skin resurfacing can be performed alone, but it is often combined with our facial surgical procedures to provide additional benefit for the patient and optimize overall results.
What to Expect Post Procedure
Compared to older technologies, patient recovery is milder and shorter in duration using the Smartskin+™ fractional CO2 laser. Swelling and pink skin discoloration will begin after the procedure but generally resolves within 4-7 days. During this initial phase, our office will provide moisturizing ointment to speed the healing process. After healing, the skin will remain a light pink color, resembling a mild sunburn. Make-up can be applied to the face after the skin has healed. The skin continues to remodel and improve in quality for 3-4 months following the procedure. While final results ultimately depend on individual healing, for most patients this is a one-time procedure.
