Facelift
(Neck Lift, Cheek Lift)

A facelift, also known as a neck lift or check lift, is cosmetic surgery performed to provide the face with a natural, refreshed appearance.

No minimally invasive product or technology can compare to the long-lasting, dramatic results that are achieved with our facelift techniques.  Our goal is to reverse common signs of aging in the cheeks and neck, including facial wrinkles, sagging skin along the jawline (jowls), and sagging skin under the neck. The sagging area under the neck is known by a variety of names including the “double chin” or “turkey neck.”

While there are a variety of less invasive technologies that are intended to address the same areas as a cheek or neck lift, the effect is almost universally more temporary and less dramatic. For these reasons we recommend an in-person consultation in our office with Dr. Been to discuss the right option for you.

Is a Facelift Right for You?

The best candidates for a facelift are those with the following characteristics:

  • Sagging skin along the jawline or under the chin (“jowls” or “turkey neck”)
  • An irregular, or loose, appearance of the jawline
  • Deep, excessive wrinkles in the cheeks
  • Excess fullness or fat under the chin (“double chin”)
  • Facial volume loss with resulting loose skin (due to age or weight loss)

What Sets Dr. Mark Been’s Facelifts Apart?

As mentioned above, there is not one facelift design that works for all. Dr. Mark believes a successful outcome is determined not only by the skilled execution of the procedure, but the proper planning beforehand. During your consultation and preoperative time period, Dr. Mark and his team will discuss the various details in his approach that create natural, lasting results. Your input is vital during this process to make sure your top concerns are prioritized. Our state-of-the-art imaging system can also help to simulate the results beforehand.

As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Mark has developed an understanding of the nuances of facelift surgery that separate average from great results. There are numerous details that go into incision design, tissue dissection and repositioning, and artful incision closure; however, because of his training and experience, facelifts are one of the most commonly performed procedures in the office.

We perform this procedure in the comfort of our own surgical center, meaning you experience the utmost privacy and ease during your time with us. We also have the ability, on the same day, to combine the facelift with other facial procedures including eyelid, forehead and nasal surgery.

What to Expect after your Facelift

Swelling and bruising are the most common and expected developments following the procedure. To minimize these issues, a dressing will be placed around your cheeks and chin for the first night of surgery. It is not uncommon to also experience some temporary numbness in your cheeks and ears, but this will gradually improve during the recovery time.

We stress head elevation and cool compress application during the first week of recovery. After this time you will begin to notice the effects of your surgery. After the first week you can resume light activities and apply make-up. Depending on individual healing characteristics, final results are typically visible within several weeks or months.
